Looking for a new hobby?

Albrighton Players are just about to start our 66th season and we show no signs of retiring yet!

As ever we are looking for new members to keep the group fresh and forward looking. So if you have ever had a hankering to tread the boards, or work backstage, or build a set or even just pop along and see what needs doing then come along and see us in the next few months. This is the ideal time to join us, we are reading plays and will be settling on our 3 productions for the next season so the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.

The perfect opportunity for you to come along, say hi, maybe read a bit and see if amateur theatre is for you. All ages welcome from 16-99

Our next reading is also our AGM on 10th July 2014 dont worry the AGMs are very relaxed affairs these days, very few bloody coups 😉  Venue to be announced soon… Hope to see you there

Curtain up on Murder and curtain down on another season – Thankyou!

Our successful run of Curtain up on Murder at Theatre on the Steps has drawn to a close, it always goes by so fast!

We had three fantastic audiences who enjoyed three great performances. Every night I could hear mutterings between audience members as they tried (and failed, sorry about that!) to work out “whodunnit”. It was tremendously fun and so satisfying to see we got the tone just right. The friday and saturday night audiences were particularly cramped as we had done very well on tickets sales so apologies if it was a little warm in the theatre, it is a good problem for us to have though!

So a massive thankyou to you, our audience, for supporting us for this play, and indeed all three of our productions this “season”. We have tried to do something a little different over this season with a mix of “one act” pieces, thoughtful comedy/drama and our murder mystery production.

So another year of strong audience numbers, a happy cohesive team and good varied productions… which have all done very well… long may it continue…

Onwards and upwards, as ever we have even bigger plans next season so keep your eyes peeled for news on our Autumn production and readings for all the various options, it is the ideal time to join us as we decide on our coming season!

A Murder Mystery… Next Week – Curtain up on Murder

Time flies and our next production, Curtain up on Murder by Bettine Manktelow, is on next week. The stage is set (almost) the actors are ready (nearly) and all we need now are you, our loyal audience!

If you don’t know the plot then it’s quite simple… An amateur company are rehearsing a play in an end-of-pier theatre when inexplicably they are locked in and one by one begin to die…

As you can tell it is a classic murder mystery… The theatre and all of the characters have their skeletons in the closet, to be revealed (or not) throughout this great production.

We will be performing “Curtain up on Murder” at Theatre On The Steps, Stoneway Steps, Bridgnorth, Shropshire, WV16 4BD on Thursday 5th, Friday 6th and Saturday 7th June 2014.  Tickets are £9 for adults and £7 for concessions. Tickets are on sale online at

We are deep into rehearsals for our next production, ”Curtain Up On Murder” by Bettine Manktelow.

An amateur company are rehearsing a plain an end-of-pier theatre when inexplicably they are locked in and one by one begin to die…

This is a classic murder mystery with a twist. The play within a play concept is always fun to play with especially outside of the boundaries of comedy (although there are laughs here as well as murderous intent!). Also there are a few extra strands of deceit and strained personal relations to help throw in some red herrings and keep you all guessing until the end. It is a few years since we did a proper “whodunnit” and we hope you enjoy our production…

A heartfelt well done all round to cast and crew. However we are not resting on laurels as we are on stage this week at Albrighton!
