New Season – New Productions!

We had a fantastic 2016/17 season and now we plan to have an even better 2017/18 season. For the first time we have planned out our entire season in advance. We think this gives us great stability as a group and helps us choose a more varied programme to entertain you, the audience.

First up this year will be It Runs in the Family by Ray Cooney. This rip-roaring farce will run from 8th-11th November 2017.

Secondly we are performing in the round once again and will present Neighbourhood Watch by Alan Ayckbourn from 28th Feb – 3rd March 2018.

Finally we will return to Theatre on the Steps with the classic dark sharp comedy Abigail’s Party by Mike Leigh from 31st May – 2nd June 2018.

We hope you agree that we have selected a broad range of comedy there from the fast and furious through to more thoughtful dark and instrospective fare.

Roundelay!

Kindly Keep it Covered was a great success, 4 great audiences enjoyed themselves thoroughly with our knockabout farce.

Now we have chosen our 2nd production of the season which will be Roundelay by Alan Ayckbourn from 22nd to 25th March 2017.

This is a brilliant, dark, funny production that will make you laugh and cry all in one night. 5 different playlets all with a different theme and genre. First performed in 2014 professionally we will be one of the first amateur groups in the UK to present this play.

ROUNDELAY is Alan Ayckbourn’s 78th play, a series of five self-contained one-act plays (The Judge, The Novelist, The Politician, The Star and The Agent), written to be performed in any order, all of which are connected in some way. The order they are seen in affecting the audience’s perception of the plays and characters. With a possible 120 combinations each performance of ROUNDELAY will be completely different.

Chorus of Disapproval – Rehearsals well underway

Rehearsals are now well underway for our next production. Our vocal chords are being tuned up carefully, lines are being learnt and hilarious scenes are being put together and polished. The play is a mixture of rehearsal scenes where we see the Beggar’s Opera “come together” and fantastically crafted comedy scenes showing us the relationships between the cast members of the operatic society. Throughout  this, short musical numbers tie the whole thing together and underline themes, moods and comic moments. The play is a simple comedy at heart but the addition of music and pathos at times makes it a special production. This play really does have something for everyone.

Tickets are now on sale for Chorus of Disapproval by Alan Ayckbourn at Theatre on the Steps in Bridgnorth.  Not only are we doing our normal evening performance on 2nd, 3rd and 4th June 2016 we are also putting on a special matinee on Saturday 4th June at 2:30pm. So if you don’t like tackling the steps in the dark, or if you want to enjoy a play in the afternoon and then go out for a meal with friends in the evening then this is the performance for you! Tickets are on sale direct from the Theatre on the Steps ticketing website. We hope to see you there!

CODv3

Albrighton Players return for our 13th year at Theatre on the Steps. This time we present to you the classic Alan Ayckbourn comedy Chorus of Disapproval.

This is an entertaining comedy about an amateur operatic society attempting to put on “A Beggar’s Opera”.  A diffident widower attempts to escape loneliness by joining the local amateur light operatic society. By accident rather than by design he advances from a small part to the lead. Parallels are skillfully drawn between The Beggar’s Opera and the day to day activities of the society which is performing it.

There is something for everyone here, some singing, some laughs and some poignant moments. A great production that will be enjoyed by all!

Acts of Jealousy – tickets on sale

We are back with a brand new play, or in this case three different short plays by three different playwrights. All are comedies but some are more thought provoking than others. All are wonderfully entertaining. Tickets are on sale now so ring the number or click our handy link here.

Figuring Things by Michael Fosbrook is a hilarious look at how an all consuming hobby can affect relationships. How many nights out with a statistician friend can be stomached by a wife before she catches him on the offside? This is funny, heartwarming and hilarious in equal parts.

Cruise Missile by Jean McConnell is a gentle comedy about two wanderers who meet by chance on a cruise ship. One is experienced and happy to show her new found friend the ropes. But should she be so quick to do so?

Between Mouthfuls by Alan Ayckbourn is a classic comedy short. Two couples are enjoying a night out in a restaurant although both are maybe not as happy as they might be. They have alot in common but only the waiter knows that , for now!

Our next production(s)

Thank you all for your support for our last production,Natural Causes by Eric Chappell. The audiences were numerous and appreciative, a good night was had by all!

Not being a group who rests on our laurels we are now gearing up ready for our next season. We are, for the first time, trying to plan our whole season right now.

So we can tentatively announce that our programme for the season is as follows

25th-28th November 2015 – Tons of Money by Will Evans and Valentine, revised by Alan Ayckbourn

24th-27th February 2016 – A collection of short plays , details to follow

2nd-4th June 2016 – Chorus of Disapproval by Alan Ayckbourn at Theatre on the Steps in Bridgnorth

So another fantastically funny farce for Autumn. We are then putting on an evening of 3-4 shorter pieces as you, the audience, enjoyed our last evening of varied pieces so much. And we finish with a flourish by performing Chorus of Disapproval. This funny, touching and musical comedy is a classic and after performing it in Albrighton 11 years ago we are looking forward to bringing it to a new audience in Bridgnorth.

I hope you agree that this is a fun packed programme for next season, tickets will be on sale for all productions as soon as we possibly can.

We look forward to seeing you in 2015/16

Our Next Production – Natural Causes

Life of Riley

We are all of us gathered here today, to say our final farewell to George Riley…

We had 4 fantastic audiences over 4 nights of fun, laughter and tears (and that was just the backstage crew). Our thanks go out to our wonderful hardworking front of house staff, our dedicated backstage crew working overtime in 4 corners of the theatre space, our magnificent cast who acted professionally throughout and last but not least a big thankyou to you, our superb audience.
